KTM went all in! 2024 KTM 1390 Super Duke – THE BEAST but better

The KTM 1390 SUPER DUKE R EVO stands out as a highly evolved powerhouse. It not only incorporates the cutting-edge features of the brand-new KTM 1390 SUPER DUKE R but also introduces the innovative WP Semi-Active Suspension Technology (SAT). This technology seamlessly adjusts the suspension in response to the rider’s input or the characteristics of the road, injecting a level of intelligence onto the asphalt and enhancing the overall riding experience. Similar to the evolution from the 990 to the 1290, it appears that the latter is set to mature into the 1390. KTM inadvertently revealed this progression by listing its ‘1390 Super Duke’ engine on various dealership portals. While specific details such as displacement, output, and other modifications are yet to be disclosed, some preliminary investigation provides insights.

For instance, the current 1290 Super Duke boasts a 1,301cc twin-cylinder powerhouse. This hints at the possibility of the new model undergoing a 100cc increase, reaching an impressive 1,401 cubic centimeters—making it the largest in its class. Why the need for such a change? Two primary reasons come to light. Firstly, tightening emission regulations necessitate innovative solutions, and a boost in engine capacity is often a straightforward approach to compliance, as exemplified by the transition from the ‘790’ to the 890 Duke.

Furthermore, a larger engine is of paramount importance as it enables the motorcycle manufacturer to harness additional power, aligning itself competitively with adversaries such as the 210-HP M 1000 R and the 208-HP Streetfighter V4. Currently, the ongoing Super Duke generates 177 horsepower, presenting a substantial shortfall of nearly 30 horsepower when compared to these counterparts.

Is new KTM 1390 Super Duke improved?

The Super Duke is slated for an upgrade in the electronics realm, addressing a gap where its competitors shine with advanced rider assistance systems derived from MotoGP and WSBK initiatives. Notably, the 2023 Streetfighter V4 boasts enhanced power modes, a new ‘wet’ mode, and dedicated controls for engine braking and slide management. In contrast, the current Duke offers just three ride modes, with slide control available as an optional feature. Hence, there is a discernible need for an update in this area, and it would be a noteworthy enhancement if KTM draws inspiration from its victorious MotoGP machine, the RC 16.
